Besides sightseeing (visit the Sights page), Somerset East and its district offer a variety of things to do.

Boschberg Nature Reserve.  One can walk in the reserve which is forested on its lower slopes and Dohne Sourveld (Karoo shrubs and fynbos) higher up.

Game viewing.  Small mammals, birds and reptiles can be seen in the nature reserve, while Kamala Private Game Reserve offers the Big 5 as well as abundant other game.

Bird watching.  The district is particularly good for birding with Glen Avon Farm, Kamala and the Bosberg being three notable areas.

Museum.  Originally a Wesleyan chapel, then the NGK parsonage, the building has been restored to its Victorian state.  In the grounds is a rare posting box from Queen Victoria's reign.

Rock climbing.  Kamala offers qualified instruction for the beginner and guidance for the more experienced.

Fly fishing.  There is also fly fishing for those who would angle for trout.

Clay pigeon shooting.  A perfect sport for exercising one's reactions and marksmanship.

Paintball.  An exciting "combat" sport.

4x4.  The varied terrain around the town creates a variety of 4x4 experiences in addition to some magnificent views.

Hiking.  The spectacular and varied scenery can be enjoyed on foot on many properties in the district.  Glenavon has three marked trails.

Para-gliding.  There are some spectacular opportunities for this sport.

Golf.  Somerset East Golf Club  has a very pleasant 9 hole course and also hosts the Annual Boschberg Classic tournament.

Hunting.  Hunting safaris as well as wing shooting are available at Kamala.

Walter Battis Art Museum.  A collection of the work of this local artist and friend of Pablo Picasso, reflecting different periods of his career as well as personal memorabilia.
